Stotler family papers 1773-1994 1790-1860 [papers].

The Stotler family papers are housed in one archival box with the addition of one volume. These papers include receipts, tax assessments, estate papers, letters, maps, genealogical information, notes from the Plum and Wilkins Literary Association and photocopies of original papers. The majority of materials are financial. Of interest is a letter written to Emmanuel Jr. from Thomas Mellon on the eve of the election of 1859. Also of note, is a ledger detailing the Road Tax for Penn Township in 1831. Volume 1 is a ledger for the Stotler family farm from 1863-1866 and 1871. There are also loose materials in the ledger.

This collection is centered on Emmanuel Stotler Sr. and his son Emmanuel Jr. Jacob Stotler, a Revolutionary War veteran purchased land in Penn Township. He died before reaching the land but his wife, Nancy moved the family there. Upon her death, her son Emmanuel inherited the land. He married Elizabeth Bowen in 1799 and they had thirteen children.
